Stefanie had Bryce Andrew Hyer on Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 at 8:13pm. I got the phone call at work around seven and one of the moms at the gym told me it would be awhile before she actually had him... so I coached for the last hour. I called my mom at 8:15pm only to hear Bryce crying already! My whole family was there except for me :-( She had him really fast and they didn't tell me that Stefanie had been in the hospital since 4:30!!! It was raining on the way home from work!! I went and picked up Josh and we stopped at Jack in the box to get dinner for us and Mozzarella Sticks and Onion Rings for Stefanie... Her Dinner? I Guess.
I realized the only time I ever held a newborn in the hospital until now was Stefanie! (That I can remember anyways!) That's crazy!
I of course HAD to take some pictures! Bryce and Stefanie came home on Saturday evening and on Sunday they came over to Mom and Dad's house... This is what we saw when we came in...
Josh's shirt was dirty from work when we visited in the hospital, so this is the first time he held him...
Top 8 adventures and moments of Camping with Clint and Natasha Rucker at Bear Canyon Lake 8/21-23/2009
1) The Tarp the size of Texas.
Clint has a HUGE tarp that he brought to put up to block the rain, since it was supposed to rain (and did a little)
At first Him and Josh hung it across trees over our heads. Then the next day, it was a little windy and one of the holes the rope was tied to ripped a little while we were eating lunch. I screamed "Save my lunch!" and grabbed for the sandwich and chips I had sitting on my chair under the tarp. It didn't fall all the way... Next, one side kept getting lower and clint had to constantly tie it tighter... He decided to get a long stick and poke the middle of the tarp to make the ceiling taller. He found 2 shorter sticks and hooked them together. Put it up and Natasha and I told him it was gonna fall. He didn't believe us... He's a man. So a minute later it falls right towards Josh at the food table! That is the chair Natasha was sitting on below. We saw it, screamed and moved just in time! Next, it was raining a little bit so we decided to play Phase 10 under the tarp. By phase 4 or so, we are dealing out the cards and all of a sudden....
One side came undone and it snapped down right towards us and knocked over all our snacks and a bowl and hit us all in the face! Afterwards it looked like it had been ransacked by bears!
We came up with a new version that was better for the wind:
I came up with tying it using all the holes so it didn't pull on just one hole!
2) Fishing I am deathly afraid of fish. ugh. They are slimy and smelly and just plain freaky. So I am definitely for catching them and killing them so there are less of them in the lake! I just won't touch them! So the 1st morning there we walked right down the mountain to the lake (A very short, but steap hike) with our fishing poles. I had on what is now my "fishing hat". My Grandpa was an avid fisherman/hunter and after he passed away we each collected a few of his hats. I picked this one because it was just awesome. It is my grandpa with an Elk that he caught (I think) I figured he would have loved to be there with us! Natasha isn't as hateful of fish as I am, but she doesn't like them either! To eat or touch. But we were both determined to catch one before Josh and Clint. Natasha cast her line the first time she's ever casted a fishing pole... it didn't go far and a minute later she asked why her Bobber was going under the water. She reeled in a fish!!!
So she decided she was done fishing! She got her fish! And picture with a fish! Meanwhile, Clint, Josh and I could not catch one! Josh and Clint moved down a little bit... While they were gone I sat with Natasha and she said my line was about where her line was when she caught her fish. I used what I learned on Sesame Street and said "Here fishy fishy fishy!" Then said "Josh needs some dinner tonight!"... a minute later I caught one!
The girls were the first to catch! We told them we caught them dinner, but they said that they were the men and supposed to hunt and we were supposed to cook. We told them it was opposite today. They were definitely cooking cuz we weren't gonna touch those fish! Mine is the big one!
After awhile we split up and I went and sat with Josh and Natasha went to sit with Clint. Afew minutes after we went to sit with them... clint caught one... about 2 seconds later... Josh caught one! What can I say... Natasha and I are good luck! I love Clint's clown nose in this picture!! I had the biggest fish of all! :-)
The boys cleaned the fish and saved the heads and guts for crawdad bate for later! UGH
more random fishing pics!
3) Cooking the fish... and eating them! This is my pan. This is my pan that I will never use again! We thought it was disgusting... but They loved it! So much so that... they made me try it! a very small small 1/2 inch bite! ugh... gag.
Then that made Natasha try it...
4) Shooting! Clint and Josh brought their guns. Clint and Josh held their guns... ALL THE TIME! They made me hold their guns. Then the last day we finally went shooting. We heard other people shooting. We saw a sign that said no shooting in condensed camping areas. Our camp... at least 200 yards away from someone else... we shot facing the side of the mountain.
2 guys come walking down the road right after we started. "Did you know there is no shooting allowed" "No we didn't. We're sorry" They leave and walk to the camp next to ours WAY down the road. Natasha and Clint went on a journey to prove them wrong. They came back a while later. With.... a flat tire. And no proof.
They shot again a few times so Natasha could try all the guns. I was so nervous we were going to get in trouble. Turns out those two guys were down at the lake canoeing so they didn't here. Good.
5) Crawdad fishin'
We went back to the lake with the fish heads and guts. They put them in the water so the crawdads can feast on them... yum yum. I caught about 20 or so crawdads... I would catch them on the pole and then yank the pole so that they would drop onto the shore and then make Josh pick them up and put them in the sack!
They then cooked and ate their tails for dinner. GROSS.
6) Guys have it easy. Need I say more?
7) FOOD FOOD FOOD
We had the best food the whole trip! (Except for the fish and crawdads the boys ate!) Clint had made the grill himself! It was awesome! What a craftsman! Throughout the weekend, we ate... French Toast, Bacon, Hashbrowns, Sausage, Breakfast Burritos, Tacos, Sandwiches, homemade salsa, smores... yum yum yum! Why is everything so much better over a fire!?
8) The Intruder.
So Josh got mad at me the 1st night we were there cuz I had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and I woke him up to come with me. He got irritated so I went alone. Then I layed back down and I heard what sounded like feet walking of some kind. I layed there forever and realized I wouldn't be able to sleep until I knew there was nothing out there. I made Josh go check. He wasn't happy with me. Well, the next night, it's late... we're about ready to get ready for bed. I go to the tent to get something and everyone else is standing by the car. I hear a noise, but decide that I am just being a baby and don't want to say anything to Josh. Then I turn around to go back to everyone else. And Clint asked if I was at the tent the whole time cuz he heard a loud noise in the front of the car and just figured that was where I was. Everyone else said they heard it too. The boys get their guns and flashlights and start aiming the lights all around. Josh cocks his gun... Natasha and I were getting really scared at that. And the fact that we were now left all alone by the fire. Then a few minutes later, we hear Clint cock his gun. We run to the car. DIVE in head first and lock the doors. We were SO scared! They must have saw something if they both cocked their guns. Natasha thought it was a person. I thought it was a mountain Lion. Then I got more scared that it was a person. And thought of that stupid Blue Lake Massacre Movie I was in and just pictured the scene when we were tied to the wood poles about to get slain by the crazy guy. It scared me then and I knew we were acting. But that is all I could picture as we sat in the car waiting. They come back and say they didn't see anything and tell us it's time for bed. HA! Now we wanted to sleep in the car! Then we go as a group to go hang our garbage in a tree far away and to go to the bathroom. I was scared out of my mind that something was going to jump out any second. Needless to say, that night I woke up and asked Josh to go with me to the bathroom and he was very happy to come... with his gun!
Time to pack up and go home! The adventures had to end sometime!
Tyson, Stefy, Josh and I had competitions on the Buzz light year ride... really it was Josh and Tyson as I think Stefy didn't want to play (and might not have a couple times) and I was really no competition cuz they figured out the trick to getting a million points and for the life of me couldn't hit the target that gave them the million points! We asked a worker the secret! Sheesh though, I used to be good at video games! If it's any concellation, I did beat everyone but Tyson and Josh! ( I think!)
Everyone else left early! However, since we came a day after everyone, we still had a day left on our passes and we didn't want to waste them completely, so we decided to go back for a few hours! Our first ride... Indiana Jones, again. However... we got stuck right as the ball was coming at us and we were there for awhile. They even turned on the lights. I guess that's what we get for going on Sunday!
But that didn't stop us from riding on Tower of Terror like 3 times in a row! There was no one there! Poor Stefy couldn't ride that one, so just the three of us did!!! I think we rode Grizzly rapids again then we got some yummy onion rings and decided to go home! :-( Bye bye Disneyland! We will miss you!
We got in early today (me, Josh, Jenny, Tyson and Stefy!) They only had part of the Park open, so we rode Space Mountain first, Then the mattahorn, then all of the so called "kids" rides (this is the first time I've realized that on Mr. Toad's wild ride, you die and end up in the opposite of Heaven!) Then we went and waited to get into the Indiana Jones side of the park.... craziness!
I think we ended up rideing Indiana Jones Twice and then the rest of the family met us (except for Aaron who slept till FOREVER today and missed half of Disneyland!) and Dad wanted to ride Space Mountain, so we rode it again!
After riding some more Disneyland rides and hitting all the classics, we went over to California Adventures right when it opened. After some rides, we found the new Toy Story ride! It was so much fun! To make it better, we asked a lady in line where she got her root beer float and a minute later she came back and gave us one she got for her kid and they didn't want it or something... it was so so good! Because it was so hot!
We then went to brave the roller coaster! My mom and dad had gone to the hotel to rest (and then Dad went to the ocean) and left us with their tickets so that we could use them for fast passes! It worked out very nicely! We got to ride the roller coaster twice (We had mom and Dad's tix, plus Stefy (pregnant!) and Kyler and Kacin's Tix!) We know how to work Disneyland!
We then got fast passes for the Grizzly rapids ride since it was so hot and Mom was going to come back and meet us... Josh and I decided to go back to Disneyland until it was time! I made him ride the canoes, cuz I never had and ya it wasn't worth it, unless you've never been canoeing before! If you've gone Canoeing before, at Disneyland isn't any different, except you're wasting time canoeing at Disneyland!
oh yay! Time for Rapids! We met everyone there and we had 3 extra fast passes so Laura, Kyler and I got to ride it twice! We rode with a dad and his couple boys. It was so funny! I love this ride strictly because it's different every time and you have real danger of getting soaked, but it's worth it to see someone else get soaked! (FYI, if you ever go, take real advantage of the single line rider line)
Time to go to the hotel so some people can rest and some of us can go swimming!
Mom and Dad watched the boys that night so that we could all come back to the park! We went and rode Splash mountain along with alot of other rides until my feet hurt again (sharp sharp pains!) so bad that I was going to cry! So bad in fact that we called dad to pick us up so we didn't have to walk a mile! I don't think I could have!
Next, we headed to Space Mountain! Good thing Kacin could hold onto Uncle Tyson's arm! (And yes, This is one of my favorite pictures of me too!!)
We decided to stick with the "Mountain" Theme and hit Splash Mountain... but of course we hit Pirates on the way over since who can pass up looking at Johnny depp?? The best part of that ride now is during the boat fighting scene and they play the Pirates music and you really feel like you are in the movie! That is one of my top movie music scores of all time! Genious!
Anyways, onto Splash Mountain! The boys were nervous for this one! It made me remember the 1st time I went on it and every time there was an "emergency exit" I told my dad I wanted to leave...
This is the "Classic" Splash Mountain pic that everyone takes! The boys are really there, they are just hidden! Can you find them? Tip... wear your jackets while on Splash mountain... then, it gets wet but your clothes under it doesn't and all you have to do it take it off and your dry again! Except for your pants!
Well, Dad had met up with Mom at California adventures, so we decided to head over there! Laura, Tyson and I were the ONLY brave ones in the group.
We rode it a few times during the next 2 days!
There was this little play area on the Pier at California Adventures. Kacin really wanted to go play on it, so I volunteered to take him because secretly I really wanted to play too!
It was a giant ship! We put our faces in the fireman! Kyler the fireman... Kacin getting hurt climbing up to the fireman... Being brave and getting up for the picture anyway...
Me the fireman. Josh the bravest fireman. Surf lessons!
We rode the scariest ride in the world! The swings! They scare me more than any roller coaster!!
All we have left today is my two favorite rides!! The Rapid ride and of course... Tower of Terror (which I called riding with Kacin)
I got the love of this ride from my mommy and riding the one at knotts berry farm like 10 times in a row when we were little!
After the rapids ride, we found a ticket on the ground... it became the topic of many conversations the next two days because it was... a Club 33 ticket!!
Most people don't know about Club 33, but I happened to hear about it once and did some research about it and created a "TV show" about it in my TV Programming class in college. After we found the ticket we learned more... Apparently, it costs $10,000a year to be a member. Of course there is a waiting list. It gets you into this room above the Blue Bayou and Pirates. Basically it's just a restaurant. When you're a member you are allowed to eat there and bring whoever you want when you come, but... you have to still pay for dinner. And some Disney employees told us that the food is better at the Blue Bayou... You still have to pay for your Disneyland Tickets too. The $10,000 is strictly to be allowed into the restaurant. Yep it's all about being exclusive. Josh was going to try and use the ticket to get into the room. But we figured that there has to be a list anyways...
ok anyways, we found Laura waiting for us with Kacin (Poor Kacin is too short to ride some of the rides!)
I even caught a rare picture of Dad!
And a not so rare picture of Stefanie and I!
I love these two pictures! They are taken as you enter and exit the Animation studio at California adventures!
NOW what I've been waiting for. Poor Kacin is too short for the mild rapids ride, but NOT too short for Tower of Terror! As we got closer I had to hold him and continue to talk to him about how fun this ride was! We get in and sit in the front row. As soon as we had our first drop, I think Kacin was in absolute shock. He was holding on so tight and his eyes where open so wide. This picture definitely doesn't do justice to how scared he looked.
After the ride, he went right to his dad and wouldn't talk to anyone for a while! Poor kid, I didn't know it would affect him that bad! He was definitely in shock over what had happened. Josh and I, however, rode it again!
We went back to Disneyland and later that night, we decided to ride "It's a small world" which I probably haven't done in like 8 years and they have redone it... we're in line and we are ransacked with questions about the ride... Kacin is learning. "Does this ride have a drop?" (Tower of Terror and Splash Mountain) "No" "Does this ride get you wet?" (Splash Mountain) "Does this ride go fast?" (Space Mountain and Mattahorn)He definitely learned all the questions to ask before he agreed to get on a ride with us! (but he did ride all the rides the next day, except for Tower of Terror!)
My feet hurt SO SO bad! When we walked home, I couldn't walk at all by the end. I wanted to cry. It wasn't normal "Disneyland" foot pain. But sharp pains just below my big toe, to the point where I couldn't even walk. :-( OW. time for bed.
